Another Chimney Sweep in Cool California!

I am lucky enough to visit Auburn Lake Trails, in Cool, California at least once or twice a week between September and January to provide Chimney Sweep services.

This particular home has a wonderful rooftop view, as you can see here. I always do my best to make sure the condition of the pipe is acceptable for the Winter burning season. Most people who live up here in the foothills, use their wood stoves as their primary source of heat. So I make sure everything is safe.

First I check the stove, and move the baffle plate so that the soot from the chimney comes down into the stove. Then I close the stove door to make sure nothing comes out. I go up to the roof, take the cap off and sweep the entire pipe down to the stove. I clean the cap and screen and check it for any weathering or damage.

Then I come back to the stove and vacuum out all the soot that comes down from the pipe. And brush out any loose as and creosote from the inside of the stove.

This one had a tremendous amount. It’s a good thing they called, this was close to becoming a chimney fire.
